Bem-vindo!

In 2005, I spent a summer in Mozambique hanging out with Iris Ministries, a faith-based NGO that has been serving in the country for over fifteen years. Since Myspace was still pretty big back then, upon my return to the US,  I created an account where I posted a few stories that I wrote, along with a bunch of pictures, and some church songs that a friend of mine recorded while we were there. These are a few of the photos, but if you want to see the total package, follow this link:  http://www.myspace.com/songsfromafrica .                                                                                                                                Earlier this month, I received an official invitation from the Peace Corps to serve as an English teacher in Mozambique and I couldn't have been happier with my assignment. I've wanted to return to the country ever since that summer of 2005, so I'm very thankful that it seems to have worked out. So here's what's next for me: On 9/29, I'll be meeting up with the other Mozambique PC volunteers either in DC or in Philly where we'll have a 2-day pre-orientation thing. After that, I'll be flying to Mozambique for a two month orientation where I'll be living with a host family. And then.... I'll be a legit Peace Corps volunteer. My service begins this December and ends on December 2012. I have no idea how often I will update this blog, but I will try my best to never stop writing.

p.s. in case you're wondering about the title of this blog, the phrase means "walking against the wind." It's a line from a really cool song by Caetano Veloso. And I took these photos in the summer of 2005.
